Veena Malik targeted by PMLN for calling Maryam Nawaz a ‘grandmother’

News Desk |

Former Pakistani actress Veena Malik, is countering a torrent of abuse from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s social media camp, after she referred to Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, as a “grandmother” in her latest tweet.

Veena has previously called Maryam a ‘grandmother’ as well, in a tweet posted on 4th June, which was a response to the latter’s tweet. Since the past week, the social media teams of PML-N and Veena Malik are trading extreme sarcasm and mockery on Twitter.

Veena Malik, in a tweet again, took a jibe at Maryam Nawaz and stated that she will continue to protest against the female politician being referred to as a ‘brave girl’.

The female celebrity is now facing below the belt criticism which includes character assassination and circulation of inappropriate images from photo-shoots she had done in the past when she joined Bollywood. Veena Malik is, however, single-handedly snubbing the trolls on social media.

The former actress/model took her critics head-on and affirmed that she has made positive rudimentary changes in her life after she realised she was on a wrong path. She explained how her past is now way behind her and is living a prosperous life with her two sons.

The scoop behind the drama

Maryam Nawaz, the leading lady of PMLN has often been proclaimed as a ‘brave girl’ in various press talks and talk shows by PML-N leaders. The term ‘brave girl’ (Nihati larki) was originated by poet Habib Jalib for former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was quite young with three kids when she assumed the leadership of PPP and became the first female Prime Minister of any Muslim majority country.

Now PMLN has borrowed (without asking) this term for their leader Maryam Nawaz. The party leadership uses the term ‘brave girl’ to refer to Maryam Nawaz and to propagate her narrative of being politically victimized by the power pillars in Pakistan. Veena Malik seems to have objected to this portrayal of Maryam Nawaz because the latter is 45 years of age.

Perhaps Veena wanted to remind the people of the corresponding age difference between the two female leaders when they took charge to spearhead their respective political parties in turbulent times.

Even the leading lady of PMLN, Maryam Nawaz, called herself a ‘brave girl’ when she was asked to give her reaction over the Supreme Court’s verdict of imprisonment for her and her father Nawaz Sharif in the case of assets beyond means. Her short-clip widely circulated on social media at the time.

The Social media frenzy

Twitter showed mixed reactions to the onslaught of criticism initiated by PMLN against Veena Malik. Different polls were conducted on social media comparing Maryam Nawaz and Veena Malik on the basis of popularity and decency of character from various Twitter accounts. Veena Malik then shared the screenshots of the results which showed that she defeated Maryam Nawaz on the online polls.

Senior anchorperson, Wajih Sani, also shared a post on Veena Malik, which was part of a campaign initiated to malign the actress. Veena Malik, however, rebuffed Sani with a furious reply.

While commentator Mehr Tarar, anchorperson Junaid Khan, journalist Siddique Jan and PTI legislature Aamir Liaqat Hussain, came in defence of Veena Malik on Twitter. Veena Malik has refused to budge and even proclaimed that she will continue to challenge the false narrative of victimization by PMLN through her platform.
