Wahab Riaz top contender for Chief Selector role

After the Australian Test tour, Pakistan is scheduled to play 19 T20Is leading up to the T20 World Cup in June in the West Indies and the USA.

Former cricketer Wahab Riaz emerges as the strong contender for the role of Chief selector which has been left vacant following the resignation of Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Former Pakistan cricketers Younis Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, and Sohail Tanvir met with Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today.

Following Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation as chief selector, Tauseef Ahmed was briefly appointed as the Chief Selector. He was tasked to select the team for Australia tour. The temporary committee stands dissolved as Ashraf looks for permanent appointments.

As of now, three cricketers Younis Khan, Wahab Riaz, and Muhammad Hafeez are in the race to become the chief selector. Chairman PCB Zaka Ashraf has met all three candidates with Wahab Riaz being the strongest candidate for the position, suggests media reports.

The new selection committee will discuss and formulate the squad for the upcoming Test series from November 20th to November 24th. A training camp will also be organized that will invite top performers of domestic cricket.

Pakistan’s only T20 World Cup victory in 2009 was under the leadership of Younis Khan, while Mohammad Hafeez boasts a commendable captaincy record in T20 cricket.

In other news, pressure is mounting on Babar Azam to resign from the captaincy. Meanwhile, reports say Babar Azam is adamant not to resign from his post unless PCB removes him.

However, media reports circulating for the past few days stated that Babar Azam might be forced to resign from his role by PCB. He has been invited to the meeting with the Chairman Zaka Ashraf. Along with him, Zaka Ashraf met Team Director Micky Arthur. The entire management is expected to be sacked.
