Walt Disney allows vendors to get Disney-branded products from Pakistan

The government of Pakistan has signed Better Work Program Agreement along with International Labour Organization. Masood Khan, the Pakistani diplomat, and politician shared the news on his Twitter account.

Walt Disney, an US entertainment giant, has authorized its licensees and vendors to procure Disney-branded products from Pakistan. Pakistani organizations registered with Better Work Program are being allowed to venture with Walt Disney.

The government of Pakistan has signed Better Work Program Agreement along with International Labour Organization. Masood Khan, the Pakistani diplomat, and politician shared the news on his Twitter account. He urged Pakistani businesses and organizations to join the ‘Better Work Program’ to benefit from the share large market share of Walt Disney globally.

Ministry of Commerce shared the news on Twitter. “The Ministry of Commerce would like to share that the Walt Disney has authorized its vendors & licensees to procure Disney-branded products from facilities in Pakistan that enroll and participate in the Better Work Program (BWP) w.e.f. 1st April 2022,” said the Ministry of Commerce.

“An MoU has been signed. by the Government with International Labour Organization (ILO) for implementation of BWP in Pakistan. This will allow sourcing from Pakistan & would contribute to our exports. We would like to thank ILO & Ministry of Human Resource Development for partnering with MOC,” said the Ministry of Commerce further in a statement.

Back in 2014, Walt Disney banned imports from Pakistan after failing to satisfy the US giant on satisfactory governance standards. The decision had stripped Pakistan of $200 million in exports of textile products. The decision was taken due to the poor implementation of labor laws in Pakistan.

The US giant issued a stricter warning for Bangladesh and decided to put Pakistan on its watch list because of repeated incidents of factory fires in Textile garment units. However, the government managed to get a waiver when it signed up for ILO ‘Better Work Programm’ that allows close monitoring of the country for social audit.

Pakistani businessmen had expressed their anger over the apathetic and careless behavior shown by the people in the commerce sector.
