The Mehndi ceremony of Shaheen Shah Afridi was held yesterday Monday night. Videos and pictures of the event are making rounds on social media.
Pakistan’s fast bowler, Shaheen Afridi, and Ansha Shahid, the daughter of former national cricket team captain Shahid Afridi, are set to have their rukhsati ceremony, marking the official send-off for the newlyweds. The couple’s nikah, or marriage contract, was formalized earlier this year, with Maulana Abdul Sattar officiating the ceremony at Zakaria Mosque in February.
The pre-wedding celebrations included a mehndi event held at Afridi’s residence, attended by close friends and relatives. The groom, Shaheen Afridi, actively participated in the festivities along with his family.
A reception followed the nikah, and it boasted a star-studded guest list, with cricketers such as Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan, and legendary squash player Jahangir Khan in attendance. Notable figures like Asim Bajwa, the former director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations, and Wasim Khan, the General Manager of the International Cricket Council, also graced the occasion.
Shaheen Afridi and Ansha Shahid’s engagement took place two years prior to their wedding, showcasing the longstanding connection between their families. The Valima ceremony, a traditional post-wedding event, is scheduled for September 21 in the federal capital.
Reflecting on their journey to marriage, Shaheen Afridi shared that he had initiated the thought of marrying Ansha. Their families, well-acquainted due to the longstanding friendship between Shahid Afridi and Shaheen’s brother, supported the proposal, leading to the nikah.
When asked about their first meeting, Shaheen mentioned that there wasn’t a distinct initial encounter since they had known each other for a while. Their interactions mainly occurred during visits to each other’s homes, and their formal meeting took place during the nikah ceremony.
Shaheen Afridi expressed his gratitude for having a life partner who appreciates and supports him, emphasizing Ansha’s unwavering support despite her tendency to keep a low profile in public matters.
