Social media platform X in its latest statement stated that they are working with the government of Pakistan regarding the ban on the platform in the country.
In a first statement issued even since the continuous ban on the platform, the organization stated that they are working closely with the government of Pakistan to understand their concern.
“We continue to work with the Pakistani Government to understand their concerns,” read the statement, posted by X’s Global Government Affairs team on their official handle.
The platform has been banned in the country since February 17th, 2024, a few days after the general election. Users since then reported problems connecting to the site and running the application on mobile devices.
Interior Ministry submitting the report in the Islamabad High Court said that they blocked the application due to security reasons in the wake of which the social media platform has issued a statement.

“It is very pertinent to mention here that the failure of Twitter/X to adhere to the lawful directives of the government of Pakistan and address concerns regarding the misuse of its platform necessitated the imposition of a ban,” the ministry said in the report.
It added that X is not registered in Pakistan and hence is not a party to the agreement to abide by the laws of Pakistan. This non-cooperation by the platform prompted regulatory measures including a temporary ban, as the government had no option, read the report submitted by the Interior Ministry.
The report said that social media platforms are being used indiscriminately to spread false news, and extremist ideas in society. The ban is imposed to ensure the responsible use of the platform in society.
