At least 24 people have died in the deadly clash between the arch-rivals Armenia and Azerbaijan-a decades-long territorial dispute that escalated severely last week. The clashes triggered international calls for peace and restraint on Sunday.
Relations between the two former Soviet nations have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, or Nagorno-Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.
Border clashes broke out early Sunday when Armenian forces targeted Azerbaijani civilian settlements and military positions, leading to casualties. The Pakistani actress also called for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia in a tweet on 28th Sept.
She wrote, “On a serious note, wars are bloody and people lose loved ones. Let’s pray for this war to end. #Armenia #Azerbaijani,” in a tweet.
