A biopic on Malala Yousafzai is set to release later this month. The trailer, released on Thursday, piqued interests of people.

The trailer of Gul Makai, a chronological movie on the life of Malala Yousafzai – youngest Noble laureate and the world’s renowned peace activist, was released on Thursday.

The movie is set to release later this month while the trailer has garnered nearly 13 million views.

The first poster of a biopic movie Gul Makai depicting the life of Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai was released in 2018.

The poster featured Reem Sheikh. The team released a 16-second video that provided an idea of the movie.

The trailer opens with a picturesque shot of the Swat valley – the hometown of Malala Yousafzai.

“Pashtun tribes never celebrated the birth of a girl”, Reem Sheikh essaying Malala Yousafzai is heard narrating in the background. “But as soon as I entered their life, I got a lot of love from my people,” she says further in the narration.

The trailer ward off the reality and the perception held about Pashtun villages- the villages were not regressive but the Taliban were.

The film set in a village in Swat, however, fails a bit in taking on the native accent and dialogue delivery. Two and half minutes trailer relays the events unfolding in Swat that impacted Malala Yousafzai’s life.

The trailer comprises a poster image and an audio message voiced by Kabir Bedi that speaks of the destruction caused by the Taliban militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the name of religion.

Gul Makai is a pseudonym used by Malala Yousafzai when she wrote BBC blogs back in 2002 during the control of Taliban militants in her hometown, Swat.

The Indian director Amjad Khan has directed the movie. The movie has been shot in Kashmir. Gul Makai is intended to honor the struggles of Malala Yousafzai against the tyrant militants.

It celebrates her efforts and determination towards girl’s education and their empowerment.

The official synopsis of the film reads, “Gul Makai accounts the courageous journey and struggle of Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, from her humble upbringing in the Swat Valley to her becoming the champion for free education to all.

Adding that “Gul Makai is a small tribute to this lion-hearted girl who is in every essence a global citizen championing a cause that transcends boundaries, caste, religion, and geography.”
