Hindu senator, Krishna Kumari, chairs senate session on Kashmir

PTI senator, Faisal Javed Khan said that by honoring Krishna Kumari to chair the session on the Kashmir issue, Pakistan reiterated its stance that it stands for religious tolerance and equal human rights for its citizens irrespective of religion.

PTI senator, Faisal Javed Khan, shared the picture of Krishna Kumari, a female Hindu senate, chairing a session on Kashmir. Sharing the picture on Twitter, Khan said that it is symbolic that Krishna Kumari is chairing a session on the Kashmir issue.

In the caption of the post, he said: “A Hindu presiding Senate Session on Kashmir in Pakistan. Chairman Senate asks our colleague Krishna Kumari Kohli to do the honor. In connection w/ #KashmirSolidarityDay it’s a strong msg going out depicting differences btw Pakistan & Hindustan #PakForMinorities #IndiaAgainstMinorities.”

Senator said that by honoring Krishna Kumari to chair the session on the Kashmir issue, Pakistan reiterates its stance that it stands for religious tolerance and equal human rights for its citizens irrespective of religion.

In her tweet, she said that, “It is great honour i chaired senate session called to discuss the current situation in Indian illegally occupied Jamu and Kashmir on the eve of Kashmir Solidarity day.Thanks @SenatePakistan, Thanks chairman @BBhuttoZardari for allowing me to be a member of Senate Pakistan.”

 

Back in 2019, she chaired the session on International Women’s Day. Sharing the news, Faisal Javed Khan said, “Chairman Senate of Pakistan decided to make our colleague Krishna Kumari Kohli aka Kishoo Bai to Chair the Senate for today on #WomensDay #DoYouKnowRealPakistan.”

Kohli expressed her gratitude for being given the chance: “I consider myself very fortunate today to be sitting on this seat, I salute Pakistan and I salute Pakistan’s people and I am proud to be a Pakistani and only Pakistani.”

First-ever elected Hindu Dalit Senator from Sindh

Back in 2018, in a historic move, Krishna Kumari Kohli had become the first-ever elected Hindu Dalit Senator from Sindh, Pakistan. Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chose Kumari on the minority seat from Sindh Assembly.

Kumari convincingly defeated her opponent from a religious party.“I feel delighted, this was unthinkable for me, to reach the Senate,” Kumari said in the post-election speech.

Kumari belongs to a remote village Nagarparkar, of district Thar in Sindh. She was born to a poor peasant family that worked as a bonded labor for three years in a jail run by a landlord when she was a child. Kumari, after her marriage at age of 16 attained a postgraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Sindh.
