Prime Minister Imran Khan has crossed 13 million followers on Twitter becoming the most-followed politician of Pakistan on a social media application.

In an unexpected development, Khan had hit the unfollow button on people he was following on his official Twitter handle last week. He had been following a small number of people on Twitter.

Khan was following senior party ministers and leaders including Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mehmood, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the official Twitter handle of Pakistan Tehrkeek-I-Insaf, and his ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith. In an unanticipated move, he has unfollowed everyone on Twitter.

The move came just a day after Khan had posted beguiling photos of Gilgit Baltistan on his official Instagram and Twitter accounts. PM Imran Khan described the northern areas of Pakistan as his most liked tourist destination.

The picture showed the valleys taken over by hues of orange in the autumn season. “The colors of Gilgit Baltistan just before the onset of winter. One of my favorite places on this earth. before the onset of the winters,” wrote Khan in a tweet. His tweet had garnered immense reaction on social media from internet users.

Back in June, the popularity study showed Prime Minister Imran Khan had become the ninth most followed world leader on the microblogging site Twitter. A study by Twiplomacy revealed that data showed a growth of 22% in the following of PM Khan on Twitter.

Hence, the expansion in the following of Imran Khan on Twitter marked a surge in his popularity. But did it also imply the success of his policies against pandemic COVID-19 and other complex economic issues?
