Imran Khan finally apologizes in contempt case

Imran Khan requested the court to allow him to apologize to Judge Zeba Chaudhry in person. As a result, the court decided to not indict the PTI chief.

PTI Chairman and Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has finally apologized in the contempt of court case against him for controversial remarks about Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during a rally in Islamabad on August 20.

According to the details, during today’s hearing at Islamabad High Court (IHC), the PTI Chairman sought permission from the larger bench to put his statement on the record. Pertinent to mention that today, the court was set to frame charges against Imran Khan during the hearing. However, Imran Khan offered an apology at the outset of the hearing.

“I apologize if I crossed any line. It won’t happen again. I never intended to hurt the sentiments of the court,” Imran Khan said while assuring the court of never committing “such an act again.” Imran Khan also requested the court to allow him to apologize to judge Zeba Chaudhry in person.

“I am ready to apologize to the female judge,” he told the court.

Following this, IHC CJ Athar Minallah remarked that it would not be appropriate to conduct contempt proceedings. The court decided to not indict the PTI chief after he agreed to apologise to Judge Chaudhry and the hearing was subsequently adjourned till September 26 (Monday). The Islamabad High Court also directed Imran Khan to submit an affidavit in light of his statement to the court.

Contempt of court case against Imran Khan

During his speech at an Islamabad rally, Imran Khan threatened to file cases against Islamabad’s inspector general of police and deputy inspector general of police.

“We won’t spare you,” he warned.

Not holding back, the former premier had also taken exception to Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry, who had approved his close aide Shahbaz Gill’s two-day physical remand at the request of the capital police, and said she should “prepare herself as action would be taken against her”.

On August 23, IHC issued a show-cause notice to Imran Khan after taking up contempt of court proceedings against him for allegedly threatening Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
