India, Iran arrive in Pakistan for tri-nation Kabbadi series

A 16-member squad of Kabbadi player from India has arrived in Pakistan to participate in a three-nation Kabbadi series. The Kabaddi matches of the series will be held in three different cities of Punjab from Jan 8-13. Neighbouring Iran is the third participant in the series.

The Indian team arrived in Lahore through Wagah Border. The squad arriving from India comprises of 14 players and two team officials. Baljit Singh is a coach while Guldeep Singh is the second official as well as the manager of the team.

The captain of Indian team Partab Singh said he hopes for a tough game between the teams in the competition. He also added that people are happy over their tour of Pakistan while Guldeep Singh said they have arrived with the message of love and peace from India.

The Kabaddi matches of the series will be held in three different cities of Punjab from Jan 8-13. Neighbouring Iran is the third participant in the series.

Provincial Sports Minister Rai Taimur Bhatti and Director General Sports Board Punjab Nadeem Sarwar welcomed the Indian team on their arrival at the National Hockey Stadium. The provincial government has ensured to provide all the facilities to the visiting teams.

Pakistan has fielded two team-Green and White in the competition. According to the schedule of the series, Pakistan Greens will take on India in the opening match in Jhang on Jan 8. The series will conclude in Lahore on Jan 13. The matches will also be held in Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, besides Lahore and Jhang.

Earlier this week on Tuesday, a 20-member squad of Kabbadi team from Iran arrived in Pakistan. Iran captain Hamid Zayer said that his country had always been ready to play in Pakistan. He said both Pakistan and Iran were very competitive sides and fought well against each other in the past.

The Pakistan Kabbadi Federation is currently hosting the National Kabbadi Champion that is currently underway from January 2 to 7 at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. According to the Sports Federation, the players for the tri-nation Kabbadi takra will be selected from the teams who participated in the national championship.
