It’s vulgar to publicize donations: slams Indian actor Shatrughan Sinha

"Charitable causes are always a private affair. I fear showbiz is now in the danger of collapse, so now we have it being replaced by show-off biz," said Shatrughan Sinha while expressing annoyance over celebrities trumpeting their donations.

Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha has slammed the Bollywood celebrities for boasting image and wealth through donations and charity. He expressed his grave annoyance with the word ‘vulgar’ in his statement to denounce the celebrities.

“It is downright offensive and demoralizing to hear someone has contributed Rs. 25 crores. Is this to say, you are going to judge an individual’s volume of concern for the current crisis by the amount of money he gives away?

“In no part of the world do celebrities flaunt the amount they give for charity. Charitable causes are always a private affair. I fear showbiz is now in the danger of collapse, so now we have it being replaced by show-off biz,” stated Shatrughan Sinha while expressing annoyance over celebrities trumpeting their donations.

He further added, “When I hear someone has given Rs. 25 crores, I wonder whether the amount I will give is of any use. Stop it! Everyone is doing their best. Don’t make this into a ‘mine-is-bigger-than-yours’ school-boys’ competition.”

He expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing lockdown in India extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He, however, said that the decision came late. He also questioned the lackluster decision-making and meeting of US President Donald Trump and PM Modi in India at a time when coronavirus had reached half of the world.

“Why was the American President travelling to India and shaking hands with PM Modi when the pandemic had already broken out across the world. It was feared Trump was contaminated. Luckily he tested negative,” said Sinha.

He expressed concerns for the low-paid workers in the Indian film industry. He fears like every other industry lockdown will affect the Indian film industry too hence it is the responsibility of the Bollywood fraternity to take care of low-paid workers. “Let’s ensure food for the film industry’s workers,” stated Sinha.
