Lahore family court declares Meera the wife of Ateeq-ur-Rehman

News Desk |

After nine years of legal battle, the Lahore’s family court has declared film actress Meera the legal wife of Atteq-ur-Rehman. The court in its ruling has confirmed the legality of marriage and sanctioned the evidence submitted in the court.

Mian Ateeq-ur-Rehman claimed Meera is his wife. He later filed a case against her in the court. The complainant also submitted supporting evidence like Nikah-Nama and pictures of marriage. Meera denied the evidence and called it forged.

The court, however, in its 18-page verdict has declared they are, in fact, married. The court mentioned that the couple tied the knot in 2007 and later went on to their honeymoon. The court has also rejected Meera’s claim of forged documents and photos. Judge Babar Naeem has called the evidence authentic.

The court decision also questioned the legality of her marriage with Capt. Naveed whom she called her husband after a controversial video of them surfaced on social media.

About five years ago the actor’s father, Sarwer Shah said, “When the judgment of Meera’s marriage was passed, my family and I were not present in the court. I believe that our lawyer knows best about the next step to take in this case.”

The court decision also questioned the legality of her marriage with Capt. Naveed whom she called her husband after a controversial video of them surfaced on social media.

A family member of Meera has revealed that the actress was hopeful for the court’s decision in her favor and hence she was planning to permanently move to the USA.

Rehman filed a case against Meera for marrying Capt. Naveed without dissolution of her marriage to him. Arrests warrant were also issued for Meera in 2015.

In July 2009, Meera requested the family court to bar Rehman from calling her his wife. Her lawyers also alleged that Ateeq-ur-Rehman is blackmailing her. In the counter petition, she urged that she had never solemnized the wedding.

Meera has always stated she is not married, in fact in her recent interview she reiterated that she has never married anyone.
