Police have booked a man and his mother on the charges of burning private parts of his wife with an electric rod after locking her in a room in Nawab Town.
Senior officers of city police took notice of the incident after a video of the victim was shared on social media.
Initially, the FIR was registered under legal sections related to wrongful confinement and outraging the modesty of women, while the investigations wing added through supplementary statements the offenses of attempt to murder and common intention in the report.
The victim stated that she had married Jando Dada seven years back and had four children, but her husband had been torturing her and questioning her character.
She had gone to her parents in Vehari 10 days back after her husband had tortured her.
The suspect went to her parent’s home along with his mother, apologized and promised not to hurt her again.
However, after returning home in Samsani village with her, they locked her in a room and beat her up with a pipe.
The victim stated that her husband had also burnt her private parts with an electric rod.
She said she had remained confined in the room for two days but then got an opportunity to escape.
Relatives of the victim said they had taken her to a police checkpoint but the cops had told them to take her to hospital.
When they went to a hospital, they were told to approach a court, following which they went to the Ganga Ram Hospital but told to go to another hospital they claimed.
They said they had gone to the police twice but had faced humiliation and the case was registered after the incident was highlighted on social media.
Two days earlier, a woman had been set ablaze by her husband and mother-in-law in Ichra. The police had arrested her husband.
