Maryam Nawaz hailed as IHC asks proof from NAB on Avenfield case

IHC demanding that NAB provide evidence against Nawaz Sharif is being considered an endorsement of the PML-N narrative.

PML-N and its supporters are praising party Vice President Maryam Nawaz following the decision of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Avenfield case against her and her father, PML-N supreme leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to the details, the IHC was conducting a hearing today on the pleas filed by Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain Safdar against their sentences. The IHC demanded that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) provide proof that Nawaz Sharif is indeed the owner of Avenfield flats in London.

First, prove that flats are property of Nawaz Sharif, and only then the case of assisting against Maryam Nawaz can be made, the judge remarked.

“We cannot carry on the case on assumptions,” Justice Aamir Farooq added while asking the NAB prosecutor to submit evidence and prove the connection of properties with Nawaz Sharif in the trial court.

In 2018, NAB ousted Nawaz Sharif for owning properties beyond his known income and one year for not cooperating with NAB. As per the sentence, Nawaz Sharif will serve 10 years in jail.

Maryam Nawaz on the other hand was given seven years for abetment. She was found “instrumental in concealment of the properties of her father” and one year for non-cooperation with the bureau. Captain Safdar was awarded one year’s jail term.

PML-N hails Maryam Nawaz

Since Nawaz Sharif is in London and has not returned since 2019, Maryam Nawaz has been attending court hearings. Moreover, PML-N has claimed on several occasions that the corruption cases against the Sharif family were fake.

Therefore, IHC demanding that NAB provide evidence against Nawaz Sharif is being considered an endorsement of the PML-N narrative. On this note, Maryam Nawaz is being praised for her “perseverance”.

“One cannot help but applaud the way Maryam Nawaz Sharif has handled unjust cases made against her. With patience and perseverance, standing tall and undaunted in the face of adversity. Fighting the legal battle the way it ought to be fought. Been there every step of the way. Hats off,” Prime Minister’s aide Attaullah Tarar wrote.

“We will never forget the injustice that happened to the daughter of the nation, after all, the truth wins,” PML-N MPA Hina Parvez Butt tweeted.

PML-N workers and supporters are praising Maryam Nawaz on Twitter and she is among the top social media trends.
