Nawaz is back in jail

News Desk |

Former Premier Mian Nawaz Sharif has been shifted back to the Kot Lakhpat jail today from the hospital where he was being treated for cardiac ailments, on his personal request. Strict security measures were taken by the authorities for the security of former prime minister’s move.

The ex-PM was taken to the Services Hospital on Saturday, 2nd February. According to press reports, the former premier had expressed displeasure on the Punjab government moving him to a facility where there wasn’t a cardiology department (services hospital).

The PML-N founder said he was taken to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology before being shifted to the Services Hospital; hence it didn’t feel appropriate for him to be ‘wandering around’.

A medical board had sent the report to the provincial home ministry, urging the Punjab government to shift the ousted PM to a hospital. Sharif has reportedly developed cardiac complications.

Mian Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, in a series of tweets, lambasted the government for being indecisive about the former Premier’s treatment. She said that her late mother’s illness had been made a joke out of by the PTI (current government). She also said that Mian Nawaz Sharif had refused to become a “joke” and if something dire were to happen to her father, the government would be responsible.

The Medical board’s supervisor, Prof Mahmood Ayaz, in an informal chat with journalists said the board had recommended the government to shift Nawaz to a hospital with a cardiac ward on an immediate basis. “We have completed all tests and the medical check-up of Nawaz. We have referred back the case to the interior ministry. We are now waiting for their response,” he added.

Dr. Adnan, Nawaz Sharif’s personal physician, has claimed that he had not been given the former premier’s medical reports yet. “I have severe concerns about Nawaz’s medical condition. His treatment should have been given to a cardiac expert, a facility which has not been provided yet,” he added.
