OXAGON: Saudi Arabia announces world’s largest floating industrial complex

According to reports, OXAGON's unique octagonal design minimizes the impact on the environment and provides optimal land usage, with the remainder open to preserve 95% of the natural environment. It will also be powered by 100% clean energy.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Salman on Tuesday announced the establishment of OXAGON, the world’s largest floating industrial complex. OXAGON is the next phase of Neom’s master plan for a more futuristic Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at the occasion, the Crown Prince said OXAGON will be the “catalyst for economic growth and diversity in Neom and the Kingdom.”

Important to note, in 2017, Saudi Arabia launched Neom, a planned cross-border city in the Tabuk Province of the Kingdom. To clarify, Neom will incorporate smart city technologies and will completely run on wind and solar power. There are plans to also use robots to perform functions security, logistics, and home delivery. After its completion, the city will also serve as a tourist destination.

OXAGON protecting the environment

According to reports, the unique octagonal design minimizes the impact on the environment and provides optimal land usage, with the remainder open to preserve 95% of the natural environment.

Moreover, OXAGON will have a unified logistics and rail delivery facility. As a result, this will provide world-class productivity levels with net-zero carbon emissions. Also, OXAGON will be powered by 100% clean energy.

Above all, OXAGON aims to become a focal point for industries that wish to create clean factories of the future.

In addition, seven sectors form the nucleus of OXAGON’s industrial development, with innovation and new technology creating a vital base for these industries.

These industries are sustainable energy; autonomous mobility; water innovation; sustainable food production; health and well-being; technology and digital manufacturing (including telecommunications, space technology, and robotics); and modern methods of construction. Subsequently, all should be powered by 100% renewable energy.
