PM Khan to capture PML-N’s Gujranwala with projects worth Rs 125b

Interestingly, Gujranwala is also the stronghold of PML-N as the party has 15 MNAs. Meanwhile, PTI has only three MNAs. However, it appears as if PTI is looking to gain Gujranwala's support by announcing the mega-development project.

Prime Minister Imran Khan approved Rs125bn development projects to uplift the Gujranwala division. According to media reports, PM Khan gave the approval during his visit to Lahore on December 13.

The government announced development schemes for five districts of the Gujranwala division. The districts where development projects would be performed include Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin.

For revamping the Gujranwala division, the PTI government will construct four public universities with a cost of Rs26 billion in Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, and Sambrial districts.

Additionally, the districts will also see new road infrastructure and flyovers for which the government set aside Rs71 billion. Furthermore, the PTI government will revamp the agricultural and sports sector. According to sources, the projects would be completed by 2023.

Important to note, the development comes as PM Khan aims to boost investment and business in Gujranwala. Moreover, the PTI government plans on making Gujranwala an international industrial production hub. As the 5th most populated city in Punjab, Gujranwala is the 3rd largest industrial city after Karachi and Faisalabad.

Interestingly, Gujranwala is also the stronghold of PML-N as the party has 15 MNAs. Meanwhile, PTI has only three MNAs. However, it appears as if PTI is looking to gain Gujranwala’s support by announcing the mega-development project. Important to note, PTI lost the first phase of KPK local body polls despite having a stronghold in the province.

Opposition parties lead in PTI-ruled KP

JUI-F emerged victorious in the first phase of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The party managed to grab the highest number of mayor/chairman seats in the elections for 39 tehsils of KP held on Sunday. According to unofficial results, JUI-F won in 16 tehsil council seats out of 64 while the PTI won in 14. Independent candidates won 10, ANP six, PML-N three, and Jamaat-e-Islami two.

As per public opinion, PTI lost due to the weak performance of MNAs and MPAs. As a result, KPK’s population moved towards other political parties. However, in PM Khan’s opinion, the party lost due to the wrong candidate selection.

Reacting to PTI’s defeat, Former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Wednesday called up JUI-F chief and PDM President Fazlur Rehman and congratulated him on his candidates’ success. The two parties agreed to strive together for the complete restoration of democracy, giving the right to vote to the people and overthrowing the incumbent government.
