Police have arrested PTI lawmaker Shabbir Qureshi in Karachi over charges of sexually assaulting a woman.
Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho confirmed the arrest of the PTI lawmaker on Saturday night from his residence in Clifton. Police say that the PTI member allegedly called the woman for the job and sexually assaulted her. A case has been registered against him in the SITE police station.
The wife of Shabbir Qureshi in a video message said that Police arrested her husband when he was on his way to the mosque for Fajr prayer. She said that she got to know about his arrest when she checked the CCTV footage after waking up at 8 AM.
PTI has protested the arrest of its lawmaker and called it ‘political victimization. In a video message, Imran Ismail said that he was arrested because of the protest called against inflation by PTI on Sunday. Ismail said that Shabbir Qureshi has been wrongly accused of sexual assault. He added that his family is sitting with him and everyone knows about his character. Adding that Shabbir is religious and a practicing Muslim. Targeting the Sindh Government, Imran Ismail said that they are harassing the PTI leaders in Karachi.

Imran Ismail said that FIR was registered against him at 3 am in the night and two hours later the efficient Sindh Police arrested him. The former Governor Sindh added that he has been forcibly disappeared. The police are not telling the family and the PTI workers where they have taken him. He is nowhere to be found says Imran Ismail.
In his tweet, he said, “I condemn the kidnapping of Sindh Assembly member Shabir Qureshi. Now the Assembly members are not safe in the city. There will be a protest outside IG’s office.”
