PTI leaders accuse Hina Rabbani of lying in UN human rights video

Pakistan has recently witnessed a rise in human rights violations which include political arrests, custodial torture, and media bans.

PTI leaders are accusing Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar of lying in her video statement for the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Speaking in the video message, Hina Rabbani said human rights were at the center of all global issues that the world confronted today.

This placed a special responsibility on States and the international human rights mechanisms and bodies to revisit approaches and responses. Pakistan remained fully committed to human rights at home and abroad, she said.

The remarks made by Hina Rabbani did not sit well with many on social media, including PTI leaders who have taken to Twitter to criticize Hina Rabbani and accuse her of lying. To clarify, Pakistan has recently witnessed a rise in human rights violations in the face of political arrests, custodial torture, and media bans.

“She certainly lies brazenly. Pakistan is under fascist rule right now with political opponents, especially of the largest political party PTI being abducted, arrested, and undergoing custodial torture while an assassination attempt by govt made on PTI Chairman Khan. TV channels prohibited from airing his speeches,” Shireen Mazari said.

“Journalists who are critical are also abducted, tortured, driven out of the country, and murdered. Social media activists suffer a similar fate. Rule of law is destroyed. Volker Turk should take note of ground realities in Pakistan today,” she further added.

“When reading a script becomes awfully difficult. Can’t even read the script convincingly. Knowing full well Pakistan today stands nowhere close to Human Rights. Rather Human Rights violations are being done on a daily basis. Let it be media gagging or torture and intimidation,” Sayed Zulfi Bukhari said.

“76 cases on Imran Khan, plus an assassination attempt whose FIR we cannot register… Arshad Sharif, Ayaz Amir, Azam Swati, Shahbaz Gill, Fawad Chaudhry, Gen Amjad Shoaib, ARY News, Ch Ghulam Hussain, Ammad Yousaf, Moeed Pirzada, Shireen Mazari, Dr Yasmin Rashid. Sorry, out of space,” Taimur Khan Jhagra said.

“Have you ever seen anyone lie with a straight face? If not look no further!” Ali Haider Zaidi said.
