Punjab to Build 50-Acre Film City in Lahore, Says Maryam Nawaz

Punjab has announced its first-ever 50-acre Film City in Lahore, aimed at strengthening the local film industry and building a world-class content production ecosystem.

The Punjab government has unveiled plans to establish the province’s first 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, a landmark project aimed at nurturing local talent and elevating Pakistan’s profile as a global creative hub.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative, conceived nearly two years ago, has been developed in close consultation with filmmakers, producers, and actors. The goal, she noted, is to create a fully integrated, end-to-end ecosystem for content production within Pakistan.

According to the chief minister, the Film City will feature state-of-the-art studios and sound stages, cutting-edge VFX and post-production facilities, and diverse backlots, including a central lake. Plans also include a dedicated convention hall capable of hosting international award shows.

The project will further incorporate media trade hubs, a film and music academy, and robust safety and emergency response systems. A lively entertainment district is also envisioned to support and expand the country’s growing creative economy.

“This initiative will empower local talent, generate thousands of jobs, and position Pakistan as a global centre for creative excellence,” Maryam Nawaz said.

She added that the Film City is intended as a gift for the youth — a space where aspirations can flourish and Pakistan’s vibrant cultural identity can be showcased to the world.

The initiative forms part of her broader vision to transform Punjab into a leading global destination for technology, innovation, heritage, and culture, with the Film City serving as a key milestone in that ambition.
