Rumman Raees reveals why he did not celebrate wicket of Shadab Khan

Video and images of Rumman Raees not celebrating the wicket have been making rounds on social media. At first, cricket fans were surprised by his hand gestures, however, the cricketer later revealed the reason for not celebrating the wicket.

Cricketer Rumman Raees reveals why he refused to celebrate a wicket of Shadab Khan against Islamabad United. He said he did not celebrate the wicket out of respect for Islamabad United, his former team.

Rumman Raees has played the first six seasons with Islamabad United and is playing the seventh edition of the HBL PSL 7 with Multan Sultans. Hence out of respect, he did not celebrate the wicket of his former teammate.

“Today, I was against a team which kept me for six years. I started as [an] emerging player, got appointed vice-captain, also led the side, and then when I was injured and wasn’t playing, they stood by me and kept me as a bowling consultant and allowed me to continue rehab,” Rumman recalled.

“I had decided that whatever wicket I take, I won’t celebrate in respect. So, after taking’s Shadab’s wicket, I just rose my hands and refrained from the traditional celebration,” he said.

Emotional attachment to Islamabad United

Raees said that he is professional with Multan Sultan and will give his best to make the team win the tournament. He added that he is, however, emotionally attached to his former team Islamabad United.

Several social media users said that Rumman Raees displayed an exemplary sportsman spirit. This is a common practice in football. When a player scores a goal against his former team, he does not celebrate out of respect.

“We see this in football very often, a player chooses to not celebrate when he scores against his former club. Rumman Raees refused to celebrate after taking the wicket of Shadab Khan – United helped him become the player he’s today and he loves them. #HBLPSL7,” said cricket presenter Farid Khan.
