Samsung’s 2018 flagship Galaxy S9 has arrived

News Analysis |

With Apple’s disastrous iPhone X face unlock mishap at the launching ceremony, the deliberate slowing down of its phones and the ignored middle-child iPhone 8, the smartphone mammoth’s biggest competitor seems to be at an advantage. The world has come to be privy to the iPhone-cult’s secrets and people are not happy. While the global smartphone frenzied consumers were having second thoughts about not shifting to the impeccable Samsung Galaxy S8; Samsung has struck again, with an actual innovative flagship device, the Galaxy S9.

The Galaxy S9 has been unboxed and it is everything the Snapchat crazed consumer-base wanted. The first look promo highlights show the camera has been converted into a complete experience, the screen has been smoothed further and also includes a headphone jack (as if the smartphone world has not had enough of those).

The iPhone 8 gets ignored like a doorknob against the Galaxy S8, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to surpass its predecessor with all of its innovation. Consumers in Pakistan anticipate its arrival, ATM cards on their marks.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus run with the Android OS V8 Oreo.  With a 163 gram light aluminum body the phone has gotten lighter than ever compared to its predecessors. Also, it supports a dual hybrid sim slot with convertible nano. The processor is mightier than ever with an Octa-core (4 x 2.8 GHz Mongoose M3 + 4 x 1.7 GHz Cortex-A55). With a super amoled 5.8 inch capacitive touch with a corning gorilla glass, the 16M multicolor screen is a force to be reckoned with. Also, the home button is now in 3D and it’s always on-screen.

The 3.5mm Audio Jack (unapologetic to iPhone), MP4/DivX/XviD/H.265 player, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/FLAC player and speaker phone bring a better sound experience to the table than the S8. Other features include the usual: active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, Samsung DeX (desktop experience support), Qi wireless charging, ANT+ support, Bixby natural language commands and dictation, IP68 certified – dust/water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes, Samsung Pay (Visa, MasterCard certified), Front/back glass + Gorilla Glass 5 and an aluminum frame.

The global smartphone frenzied consumers were having second thoughts about not shifting to the impeccable Samsung Galaxy S8; Samsung has struck again, with an actual innovative flagship device, the Galaxy S9.

The camera, as per the promo, is the outstanding feature of the flagship phone. A 12 Mega Pixel (front /1.5-2.4, with a 26mm aperture, 1/2.5″, 1.4 µm, the camera works as a Dual Pixel PDAF) and also includes multiple autofocus shutters and also as an afterthought; the LED flash. What makes it an experience is the software changes. You can now convert yourself into an emoji (wasn’t snapchat doing that for you?) You can make high quality videos, slow them down in a boomerang (okay..Instagram flashback)  and also, include music (again..snapchat?).

The rest of the features are the usual camera features as per a local online review site: Phase detection, Geo-tagging, simultaneous 4K video and 9MP image recording, touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR, panorama, Video (2160p@60fps, 1080p@60fps, 720p@960fps, HDR, dual-video rec).

All in all, the phone seems more exciting than Apple’s ‘genius’ face unlock that the android phones already had for years. While the iPhone 8 gets ignored like a doorknob against the Galaxy S8, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to surpass its predecessor with all of its innovation. Consumers in Pakistan anticipate its arrival, ATM cards on their marks.
