Former Prime Minister and PML-N Senior Vice President (SVP) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has allegedly resigned from the top party post.
According to the details, while giving an interview with a private media, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that he stepped down from the post after Maryam Nawaz was promoted to Senior Vice President of PML-N.
Last month, PML-N President Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Maryam Nawaz as the Senior Vice President of PML-N and also the Chief Organizer of the party, which gave her the authority to re-organize the party at all functional tiers/levels.

However, it seems that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was allegedly unhappy with the appointment. In the brief media chat, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said he had made it clear to Nawaz Sharif about three years back that it would not be possible for him to continue with Maryam Nawaz if she was elevated to party’s top office.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that he stepped down from the party office an hour after the announcement of Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as Senior Vice President. He however asserted that he would continue to stay with the PML-N until death.
Earlier, it was reported that the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif directed the party vice president Maryam Nawaz to clear Shahid Khaqan’s reservations. It was reported that Maryam Nawaz along with other senior and influential party leaders will meet the disgruntled PML-N leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
On the other hand, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said he had not talked to Maryam Nawaz ever since her return from London. He reportedly said that he is happy with the success of her surgery and wished her success.

Interestingly, soon after the reports of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s apparent resignation from the party post went viral, his spokesperson Hafiz Usman Abbasi rejected the remarks associated with the PML-N leader, asserting that “Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is [still] the party’s senior vice president”.
