Shehzad Roy happy to represent Pakistan at UN convention in Austria

Pakistani singer Shehzad Roy joined United Nations as an ambassador of Pakistan in Austria, on March 2, 2018. He was appointed as the National Goodwill ambassador for United Nation’s Office of Drugs and Crime.

The singer shared his photos on his Instagram and Twitter account. In the caption he wrote, he was proud to represent Pakistan internationally.

“I am humbled and proud to represent Pakistan as Goodwill Ambassador for UNODC at the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna, Austria,” the singer said on his Instagram page.

He also thanked UNODC Chief Executive Yury Fedotov for extending his support towards this cause. Shehzad Roy is working actively with UNODC in Pakistan to tackle crime and addiction of drugs particularly affecting the teenagers in the country.

Fedotov appreciated Roy’s efforts towards a cause in a statement issued on latter’s appointment as the Goodwill National ambassador.

Fedotov said, “Throughout his career as a singer, social worker and a humanitarian, Mr. Roy has shown an unwavering commitment to tackling illicit drugs. His position as one of Pakistan’s most famous singers, his enduring popularity with young people and his energy and undoubted talent, will help UNODC publicise the dangers of drug abuse.”

The singer while accepting the honor said, “These things are close to my heart, especially when children are concerned, and I will give my all to my new role as National Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan.”

Shehzad Roy is the recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz. He is the founder and president of his non-governmental charitable organization, ‘Zindagi Trust’ that strives to improve the provision of education to children from the less privileged background.

Shehzad Roy is also actively supporting the comeback of International cricket in Pakistan. He is currently associated with Pakistan Super League franchise Karachi Kings as one of its ambassadors.
