Shujat Hussein warns Nawaz to stop pre-poll rigging propaganda

Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former Prime Minister Ch Shujat Hussain have downplayed Nawaz Sharif’s efforts to malign the military establishment whilst making the upcoming polls doubtful.

Chaudhary Shujat Hussain said three-time former premier, “Nawaz wants to put the entire blame on the army, leveling false allegation against Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is also part of the conspiracy theory, which is his brainchild just to save his skin from imprisonment.”

He reprimanded Nawaz for repeating the hollow rhetoric while sitting in London. He warned Nawaz, that “he is on course to become another Altaf Hussain, and that he should not forget his fate.”

The dynamic of Pakistan’s politics will change after this verdict. ‘House of Sharif’ will put its allegation on the military establishment and will not accept any wrongdoing in the Avenfield case.

Pakistan Army is supervising electoral process at the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and its role is pre-determined. The PML-Q Chief questioned the Sharif machinery still in place in Punjab’s bureaucracy. He said, “It will be difficult to ensure transparency of elections without removing the loyalists of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif present in the election machinery at the district level.”

Nawaz is determined to make the election process controversial, a predictable reaction by him. He started the campaign for this right after his double disqualification from the premiership and his role as a party president. PMLN leadership is busy spreading the narrative that the military establishment is engineering these elections.

After the start of the accountability process, Nawaz had blamed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of initiating a witch-hunt against the single party to sabotage the electoral process. Former PM Shahid Haqqan Abbasi had also said this on National Assembly floor that NAB is involved in the “pre-poll rigging” and NAB Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal is spearheading the campaign to discredit PML-N. NAB had categorically denied these allegations.

Other senior PML-N leaders also backed the narrative of NAB’s political engineering of 2018 elections. After the announcement that Accountability Court has reserved the verdict and will announce the decision on July 06 [Friday].

Nawaz Sharif and his followers are already planning to declare these elections as rigged, even before the electoral exercise. The dynamic of Pakistan’s politics will change after this verdict. ‘House of Sharif’ will put its allegation on the military establishment and will not accept any wrongdoing in the Avenfield case.

Other political parties, especially PTI, and PML-Q are urging voters not to pay heed to Sharif’s narrative and vote them out of power.
