Singer Asim Azhar expressed frustration on X ban

On the other hand, with the recurrent ban on X, social media users are asking how will government persuade the global tech companies to invest in Pakistan.

Singer Asim Azhar has expressed frustration over the unannounced and intermittent ban on X in Pakistan.

Several X users in Pakistan have expressed disappointment over the ban on the application in the country for the past four days.

Taking to X, singer Asim Azhar said, “Sab ban kardo. Insan bhi ban kardo. Khana bhi ban kardo. Hawa bhi ban kardo” (Ban everything. Ban humans. Ban food. Ban air).

Asim added furthered, “Sirf beghairti aur baimaani ban na kerna baki sab ban kardo” (Only dishonesty and shamelessness should not be banned, ban everything else).

X is facing recurrent bans in the wake of the extreme criticism pouring in on the platform against the government. Criticism against the government has worsened since the February 8th elections which are marred by allegations of massive rigging.

However, users are convinced the ban would not mitigate the frustration of the citizens or would stop the dissemination of the information. In the past few months, X has been banned several times in Pakistan.

Pakistani X users are now turning to VPNs to run the application. With government officials also using X through VPNs, netizens ask about the rationale behind banning the application.

On the other hand, with the recurrent ban on X, social media users are asking how will government persuade the global tech companies to invest in Pakistan. Disruptions in internet and cellular services are also in Pakistan. Mobile networks were shut down across Pakistan on election day.

Matters have worsened ever since the admission of Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta of massive rigging in the region and manipulating election results. PTT-backed candidates claim they were made to lose the elections due to rigging. Whereas, Chatta says candidates losing were manipulated into winning the election with the lead of 70,000 votes in this region.
