Why was Nawaz Sharif not allowed to see his family on Eid?

Marriyum Aurangzeb, spokesperson Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on Friday slammed the government for not letting ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to meet his family even on the third day of Eid.

In a statement, Aurangzeb argued, “I condemn the move to not let Nawaz Sharif meet his family even on the third day of Eid. Imran sahab did not let Nawaz meet his mother and daughter. Imran sahab your Eid was complete but Nawaz could not even meet his mother and daughter.” Aurangzeb further alleged that PM Khan was taking his revenge from Nawaz who is not well at the moment. “Imran is taking revenge from Nawaz. Nawaz is in jail because you have pawned the country to the International Monetary Fund,” she said.

Meanwhile, Punjab government spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill stated that the PML-N had been left with no issue other than Mr Sharif’s health. He was of the view “Mian Sahib is quite healthy and living a normal life in jail”.

PML-N is exploiting the victim card very carefully whereby Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Nawaz Sharif, generally takes to Twitter and shares emotional familial moments with the public.

He claimed that Mr Sharif was denied a meeting with his family because of the vacation in jail as per SOP of the home and jail departments. He explained, Mr Sharif had met his family and over 225 party leaders and workers before Eid, while the family could meet him again on Saturday (today) as per jail authorities.

Analysts believe that PML-N is exploiting the victim card very carefully whereby Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Nawaz Sharif, generally takes to Twitter and shares emotional familial moments with the public. It demonstrates her intentions to use her father’s health/disease to further the party’s political agenda.

Dr. Adnan Khan, personal doctor of Nawaz Sharif, tweeted on June 4 and professed that the former PM’s life was under threat. “Met & examined former PM #NawazSharif in Jail. Yesterday around 04 AM in the morning he felt unwell & breathless, requested guards to open cell door as he choked. It took a while for him to settle after using sublingual nitrate spray. His life is at risk. This is a warning,” he tweeted.

Prominent journalist, Murtaza Solangi, also slammed the incumbent government for not allowing Nawaz to see his family. “Denying the visit of the family members of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by @ImranKhanPTI administration on Eid Day and on his regular visitors’ day, today, is petty, mean, vengeful, inhuman and despicable. What goes around comes around. Remember that,” he said.

However, Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) slammed PML-N and reminded them of the many other prisoners in Pakistan who are also not allowed to see their families on Eid. “Marriyam Aurangzeb says Nawaz Sharif was not allowed to meet his family on EID. Did this slave woman ever think that there are thousands of other Pakistanis in JAIL away from their families & not allowed to MEET them. But to her they are not human & IRRELEVANT,” he wrote on Twitter.
