It seems Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Punjab President Rana Sanaullah will have to eat what the other inmates are eating as a sessions court in Lahore has rejected his petition requesting the court to allow him to have home-cooked food in jail.

While rejecting the PML-N leader’s request, Judge Qaiser Nazir Butt directed him to approach the jail superintendent as the jail superintendent office was the relevant forum for his request. The court had reserved its verdict on the petition on July 13 and announced on Monday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said no matter what happens, the opposition will have to return the money they stole from the country.

The jail officials had informed the court in a report that Sanaullah’s daily medical check-ups were conducted and he was being given food according to his health. The jail authorities said that he was in “good health”.

Sanaullah’s counsel Advocate Farhad Ali Shah had requested the court to grant permission for home-cooked food for his client as, under the law, a suspect under-trial is permitted to receive home-made food. The court, however, turned down the application with directions to approach the appropriate forum.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Sanaullah on July 1 in a narcotics case and the next day a judicial magistrate had sent him to jail on judicial remand.

According to ANF, 15 kilograms heroin was found in possession of the PML-N leader. A case was lodged against him under Section 9(C) of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, which carries the death penalty, life imprisonment or a jail-term that may extend to 14 years along with a fine of up to Rs1 million.

PM Khan says no more AC, TV for Sharif, Zardari in jail

While addressing a rally at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC on Sunday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said no matter what happens, the opposition will have to return the money they stole from the country.

The jail officials had informed the court in a report that Sanaullah’s daily medical check-ups were conducted and he was being given food according to his health.

The premier as quoted by SAMAA said that Nawaz Sharif asks for food, an air conditioner and TV facilities in jail, adding that about 80% of Pakistan doesn’t have an AC and 70% doesn’t have a TV. PM Khan quipped that half the public would gladly go to jail if they got these facilities.

If you get everything in jail then where’s the punishment, he asked. “When I go back to Pakistan, I am ending these facilities,” he promised. Maryam Bibi will make a lot of noise but there’s a simple way to get out of jail, he said: “give back the money.”

He said the former president Asif Ali Zardari goes to jail and then straight to the hospital. “Now we’ll keep Zardari in jail but without the air conditioner or TV,” the TV channel’s website quoted him as saying. It’s very easy to get out of jail, give the money back, he reiterated.
