Addressing a seminar on US-Pakistan relations in Islamabad on Tuesday, Shah Mehmood Qureshi had noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s upcoming official visit to the US will prove to be a catalyst of a new cooperative environment for Washington and Islamabad’s bilateral engagement to strengthen.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi noted that Pakistan is forthcoming in its desire to repair its relationship with the US, and turn the environment of coercion into an environment of cooperation. He noted that Pakistan is a key facilitator in US President Donald Trump’s agenda of brokering a political solution to end the 18-year old war in Afghanistan.

During the upcoming visit to the White House, the Afghan reconciliation process will be a key subject of discussion between PM Khan and US President Trump. Pakistan earlier facilitated an intra-Afghan dialogue and later invited Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for an official visit to strengthen bilateral ties and regional engagement.

Imran Needed for Afghan Peace?

Speaking to Global Village Space, Jan Achakzai provided more insight into his analysis of Imran Khan’s upcoming visit to the US, and the conspiracies being hatched to undermine this high-profile foreign visit.

Achakzai noted, “It is also expected that some paid hacklers will interrupt Khan’s speech when he addresses Pakistanis.”

Jan Achakzai added, “After Bilawal, PML-N lobbyists will seek to introduce Maryam Nawaz in powerful Washington DC circles.”

They have cautioned against any friction with Pakistan at the time when the fight against left over Al Qaeda, rising ISIS and GLOC access for its troops tasked with anti-terror ops.

Explaining the agendas behind these efforts, he observed, “All these efforts are aimed at creating a feel good image for Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari. They are meant to put pressure on Khan’s Government and on the Army to give up on the corruption drive and go slow against the two families. While their sponsors have other strategic objectives, including cornering Pakistan’s military.”

Achakzai explained Washington’s agendas for Islamabad’s role in Afghanistan, “However, the US now realizes that if they needed to exit Afghanistan with respect, they need Islamabad’s cooperation. That cooperation can only come if there is a complete civil military alignment on foreign policy issues and convergence on domestic challenges.”

He stressed, “The above task cannot be delivered by the parties of the two families.”

“The Pentagon recently through its reports and military high ups clearly indicated to the White House and Congress that they need to keep intact their alliance with Pakistan army.”
