Pakistani-American named senior advisor to Mayor of New York City

Pakistani-American politician, Ahsan Chugtai, has been named the senior advisor to the Mayor of New York City for the first time in history. He has been named advisor for South Asian and Muslim affairs, it was reported on Tuesday.

As per the official announcement, Ahsan Chughtai has been appointed for the coveted post to develop and harness relations with these communities. Chughtai has been a civic and political leader for the past 20 years helping elected officials to develop policies for government. He offered his services in helping the government fund non-profit charity organizations and liaising between community agencies and diverse communities in New York City, read the announcement.

Pakistan Consulate in New York shared the news on its official Twitter account. “Proud moment as Ahsan Chugtai nominated the first-ever Pakistani American as NYC Mayor Senior Advisor on South Asia and Muslim Affairs,” read the tweet. It added, “Our vibrant Pakistani community excelling yet again.”

Making Pakistan proud

Adeel Rana has become the first Pakistani-American deputy inspector of the New York Police Department, on Wednesday. He has been promoted from the post of precinct commanding officer.

Pakistan Embassy in the USA posted about the development and congratulated Adeel Rana on his remarkable achievement.

Rana also took to Twitter and shared the video from his ceremony announcing his promotion as the deputy inspector.

“What a great moment to hear cheers of coworkers, friends, family & community members when my name was called for promotion to Deputy Inspector. A historical moment indeed This promotion making me the First #Pakistani #American to achieve this rank in #NYPD History!,” he wrote in a tweet while expressing his joy.

In 2020, he made history by becoming the first Muslim police officer to be appointed as a local precinct in the New York Police Department on 5th July.
