Pakistani Singer Haroon relives miraculous shooting of ‘Mahbooba’ at Egyptian pyramids

"In the end, they told me I couldn’t afford to shoot by the pyramids and it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars; and that I should just shoot the video in Pakistan on a fake Egypt set. I was really devastated," the singer said.

In the latest Instagram post, Pakistani singer Haroon shared the story behind the shooting of his hit song, Mahbooba in Egypt.

Haroon opened up about the background story of the song and the struggles he faced to shoot the song Mahbooba at the pyramids in Egypt.

“I randomly found a production company online in Cairo, Egypt, immediately booked my ticket and just got on a plane and flew out there for 3 days,” revealed Haroon, as he spoke about when he first recorded the song Mahbooba.

“In the end, they told me I couldn’t afford to shoot by the pyramids and it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars; and that I should just shoot the video in Pakistan on a fake Egypt set. I was really devastated.”

Mahbooba: shoot at pyramids in Egypt

The singer, said, however, the universe has its ways. He said that the company asked him to play his song the day he was leaving for Pakistan. “When they heard it, they loved it. The lady producer said I love this song so much, I will make it happen no matter what. She called in a favour from her best friend who was married to the owner of the local Cairo production company that worked on the film Lawrence of Arabia.”

Haroon said that after a few weeks he returned to the sets in Egypt with Pakistani crew. “There were so many things that could have gone wrong but the stars aligned and this music video went on to be one of my solo biggest hits,” said the star in conclusion.

Nescafe Basement: rendition of Mahbooba

Last year, Nescafe Basement, produced a rendition of Haroon’s hit song Mahbooba. Haroon praised the rendition of his song Mehbooba on Twitter.

“I LOVED this version of my song Mahbooba,” Haroon himself lauded the rework of his hit. “A very intricate, polished and huge sounding production by Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan – Xulfi. Congratulations to Xulfi and the Nescafe Basement team. My original was launched in 2002 and this excellent version comes 16.5 years after the original. Time flies,” wrote Haroon while praising the Nescafe Basement rendition of his song Mahbooba.

Haroon was born on 11 May 1973 in London, England, to a Pakistani father and New Zealander mother. Haroon grew up and received his schooling in Pakistan. His father died in 2017.

Haroon, the eldest of his siblings, has two brothers Daoud and Ben, and a sister, Laila. He recently tied the knot with Farwa in Islamabad.

Haroon gave an unusual experience to the Pakistani audience with the shooting of the song Mahbooba at pyramids in Egypt. The hard work of Haroon added massive value to the song, which is still remembered and liked by his fans.
