PTI govt vows legal action against Justice Wajihuddin for defaming PM Khan

The PTI government will file a criminal case against retired Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed for defaming PM Khan. Earlier, Ahmed claimed during a program that Jahangir Tareen used to provide funds of up to Rs5 million per month for PM Khan's household expenses.

PTI is ready to file a defamation case against retired Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed for making false claims on PM Khan. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry revealed the government’s decision during a media conference.

To clarify, earlier, Ahmed claimed during a news program that Jahangir Tareen used to provide funds of up to Rs5 million per month for PM Khan’s household expenses.

“In the start, the Jahangir Tareen group paid Rs3 million monthly to run his house,” Wajihuddin claimed. He then said that the amount increased to Rs5m since Rs3m was not enough for PM Khan’s Banigala residence.

In response, Jahangir Tareen denied the claims in a tweet. He rejected the notion that he ever paid “a penny” for the household expenses of Bani Gala.

“Regardless of the current status of my relationship with Imran khan, the truth must be told. I did whatever was in my capacity to help PTI in the quest to build a new Pakistan but I never gave a penny for the household expenses of Bani Gala. Just want to set the record straight,” Jahangir Tareen tweeted.

Important to note, Wajihuddin Ahmed quit PTI five years ago after developing serious differences with PM Khan over party elections. Similarly, Tareen, also fell out with PM Khan after government agencies conducted raids against his businesses.

PTI’s reaction to Wajihuddin’s claims

Reacting to Wajihuddin’s claims, Fawad Chaudhry declared Wajihuddin’s allegations against PM Khan a condemnable act. Moreover, he highlighted that targeting the reputation of the prime minister is a violation of article 9 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Therefore, the PTI government will file a criminal case against retired Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed.

Additionally, Fawad Chaudhry also stated that government will serve notices to media channels for reporting such false claims on PM without any verification.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communication Dr. Shahbaz Gill rubbished Ahmed’s claim as “completely false and illogical”.

“Whoever knows Imran Khan, knows his honesty and dignity. Wajih sahib often makes illogical remarks such as these in despair over being expelled from the party,” he tweeted.
