PTI Raises Concerns Over Bushra Bibi’s Health, Calls for Urgent Medical Inspection

Bushra Bibi is currently under house arrest at the couple’s Banigala residence, which was designated as a sub-jail for her following their conviction and sentencing in the Toshakhana case.

The PTI expressed concerns on Thursday following reports of a deterioration in the health of party founder Imran Khan’s spouse, Bushra Bibi, and demanded an urgent medical examination for her.

Earlier today, Bushra Bibi’s spokesperson and PTI lawyer Mashal Yousufzai shared on the social media platform X that the former first lady met with her family, Imran’s sister, and the PTI legal team.

“Bushra Bibi has revealed today that she has been given something similar to acid in her food, causing immense pain for the past five days. She described feeling like her stomach is on fire, with severe sores in her mouth and throat, making it difficult to eat anything except dry toast dipped in tea or water. She was in severe agony,” Yousufzai said.

Yousufzai warned of a “serious threat” to Bushra Bibi’s life and urged an immediate medical examination for her. In a separate post on X, PTI’s official handle criticized the “fascist regime” for “maliciously attacking” Imran’s wife and denying her medical assistance.

“There will be consequences for these heinous acts,” the post added. “Pakistan remains steadfast. Imran Khan remains steadfast.”

The party also appealed to higher courts to intervene. Meanwhile, PTI social media head Jibran Ilyas expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasizing the need for a full medical checkup for Bushra Bibi.

“We demand respect for the women of our country, and those who stole the mandate should not stoop to such lows,” he added.

Imran and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana case last month for retaining expensive jewelry after paying a nominal price. Two days later, they were also convicted and given a seven-year sentence for marrying during the ‘Iddat’ (waiting) period.

While Imran has remained in Adiala Jail, the government, through a late-night notification on January 31, designated Imran’s Banigala residence as a sub-jail for Bushra at the jail superintendent’s request.

The Islamabad police were informed about security arrangements outside the sub-jail, while prison officials would be deployed inside. Speculation arose about a possible deal leading to Bushra’s imprisonment at Banigala, but Imran denied any such arrangements.

Bushra claimed that the military establishment had indirectly contacted her, but initial dialogue was fruitless, and she avoided further contact. On February 6, Bushra Bibi approached the Islamabad High Court against the notification declaring her Banigala residence a sub-jail, pleading to be moved to Adiala Jail.
