Shehroze Kashif becomes the youngest mountaineer to conquer 9 peaks of over 8000m

Pakistan’s 20-year-old Shehroze Kashif broke Adriana Brownlee’s record of being the youngest to summit 9 8000m after he summitted 8,035m Gasherbrum-II, the world’s 13th highest peak, at around 9:00am (PST) on August 8.

Shehroze’s team announced the news on his twitter account.

Adriana had reached her 9th peak on July 20, after successfully scaling the Broad Peak in Pakistan. She later also made a record by becoming the youngest to summit 10 peaks of over 8,000m when she reached on top of K2 on July 30.

Shehroze Kashif is also likely to break this record soon. According to his team, after descending from Gasherbrum II, the young mountaineer will soon climb Gasherbrum I  which is the 11th highest peak in the world at 8,080m.

Shehroze Kashif became the youngest climber in the world to summit K2 on July 27, 2021 and the youngest Pakistani to summit Mount Everest on May 11, 2021. After his summit of Mount Everest, Sports Board Punjab made him the youth ambassador of Punjab, Pakistan.

Kashif summited Broad Peak at the young age of 17, after which he was called “The Broad Boy”. He started climbing mountains at the age of 11. He first climbed Makra Peak, then Musa ka Musalla and Chembra Peak at the age of 12, Mingli Sar in Shimshal at the age of 13 and Khurdopin Pass at 15 and Khosar Gang at 18 years of age.

Before his latest record-breaking summit, Shehroze Kashif held two Guiness World Records for being the youngest to climb K2 and the youngest to climb Broad Peak.

In May 2022, Shehroze Kashif became the youngest in the world and the first Pakistani to reach the summit of Kangchenjunga – the third highest peak in the world and in the same month, he summited the world’s fourth-highest peak, Mount Lhotse in Nepal.

In July 2022, Shehroze Kashif went missing between Camp 4 and Camp 3, after successfully summiting Nanga Parbat. However, he was discovered shortly after.

The 20-year-old mountaineer aims to claim the title of the world’s youngest mountaineer to summit the 14 highest mountains.
