Wife of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi granted bail in Toshakhana 2 case

Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb granted the bail after a Federal Investigation Agency officer said further interrogation of Ms Bibi was not required.

Former first lady Bushra Bibi was granted bail in the Toshakhana Case 2.0 on Wednesday. She was imprisoned on the charges of selling state gifts.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are jailed on multiple charges including the Toshakhana case on the charges of allegedly selling of state gifts worth more than Rs 140 million. These gifts were received during the premiership of Imran Khan from 2018 to 2022, from a state treasury known locally as “Toshakhana”.  Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb granted the bail after a Federal Investigation Agency officer said further interrogation of Ms Bibi was not required.

Party claims there is no other case on Bushra Bibi. Islamabad High Court ordering her release, asked the lawyers to submit surety bonds of Rs 10 lacs. However, the lawyers of the Khan told the media they could not submit the surety bonds because of the absence of the judges in the session court.

Panjotha in his tweet said: “Our team went to the Toshakhana trial court to submit Bushra Bibi’s surety bond. The staff told the lawyers that the judge had gone to the funeral at one o’clock. Duty Judge Humayun Dilawar has also gone on leave. These are the two judges of the FIA Courts.”

He further added, “Rukhsinda Judge has also gone to a place for Fatiha. The entire complex is empty.”

Naeem Haider Panjotha asserted that the prosecution lawyer admitted during the final hearing of the case that there are no further cases on Bushra Bibi. He fears that the government is planning to arrest Bushra Bibi in another case hence they are delaying her release.

Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have been in jail since 2023. Khan is facing multiple charges for inciting violence, corruption, and terrorism. He and his party maintain that all these cases are politically motivated to bar from him taking part in the electoral politics.
