Deepika Padukone is arguably the biggest actress in Bollywood right now. The 32 year old burst into the scene with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om and has only grown in popularity since then. Her appearances in films like Cocktail, Ye Jawani Hai Dewaani, Chennai Express and Happy New Year also earned her much acclaim. But it’s primarily her period films which established her as the reigning queen of the box office.

Movies like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani and this year’s Padmaavat have proven that no one brings more box office success like she does. Now she is looking to continue that by being the leading lady in the remake of a hit 70’s film, starring Sridevi.
There isn’t much to tell at this point, because the report by DNA India, as of now, is still unverified. The source behind the information states:
“The original Sridevi film was made by a producer from the South and directed by a Bollywood director. However, talks are on to procure the rights and remake it with Deepika. Nobody is willing to comment on the subject because talks have just been mooted and there are a lot of modalities involved. However, it is true that Deepika is in the know.’’
Sridevi has of course, been a part of many iconic films in that period so it is extremely hard to narrow down which film could be getting a remake. It’s also not clear whether or not the remake will be a faithful adaptation of the original movie or it will be modified for modern audiences.

Nostalgia has become a big selling point in Hollywood right now and more than a dozen remakes of TV shows and movies are in work. So it comes as no surprise that using nostalgia is being used as a tool to bring back audiences in Bollywood cinema halls too.
This report is also the second as yet unverified but very interesting potential project for Dapukone that is floating around the internet right now. Just last month there was a rumor going around which suggested that Deepika Padukone was planning to develop a female superhero film in vein of DC comics’ adaptation of Wonder Woman.
Tabloid articles have even suggested that Padukone has had problems finding work because her salary is too high while others have stated that the actress is simply taking time off to focus on her upcoming nuptials with Ranveer Singh. Therefore chances are high that we will probably find more about this project next year when the script is finalized and Padukone is done with her wedding.
