A Yash Raj Films production, Hichki is set to premiere on February 2018 starring one of India’s most adored actresses; Rani Mukherjee.

The famous Rani Mukherjee is making an appearance on screen after a long drawn-out absence and once one watches the trailer of this magnificent film, we can understand why she decided to reappear on the big screen.

The movie is directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma and is an adaptation of a Hollywood movie by the name of ‘Front of the Class’ which itself is based on a book by the same name.

The movie is called ‘Hichki’ which translates into a hiccup because Tourette’s syndrome causes her brain to go into shock when the neurons are not connecting as fast as they should resulting in her making a plethora of unexpected sounds and the most unexpected intervals in her speech.

Despite this condition, she stays adamant that she is going to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. The movie is interspersed with intense dialogs running through the sentimental scenes that depict her struggles as a teacher with a speech impediment.

There is an elite school system by the name of St. Noker’s at which she is finally awarded a teaching position but there is a catch.

The catch is that she is given the class that has students from underprivileged backgrounds who are rebellious, rowdy and to some extent disturbed as a result of their socio-economic background which clashes with the social status and class of the other students who attend the private elite school.

These socially conscious films demonstrate that Bollywood is becoming more conscientious as an industry and their prime objective is not just to generate millions at the box office but to create awareness in society about the issues that plague it.

Bollywood has managed to produce great films in recent years that give extensive coverage to social, psychological and political issues.

Movies like ‘Taray Zameen Par’ which create an entire film about some marginalized fragment of society which in this case was children who suffer from dyslexia helps to create awareness and empathy in a society using the medium of film.
