Clearing the air, Asad Umar denies having contact with Jahangir Tareen

A reporter had asked PTI leader Asad Umar whether Tareen had been in contact with him, to which Umar shook his head in denial. Asad Umar rejected having any contact with Jahangir Tareen who is making a political comeback.

PTI leader Asad Umar has denied having any contact with estranged PTI leader and senior politician Jahangir Tareen, who is making a political comeback with the recent PTI defectors.

According to the details, Asad Umar made the remarks outside an Islamabad court where he appeared in a case about violent protests in the country on May 9. In an informal and quick conversation with journalists, Asad Umar rejected having any contact with Jahangir Tareen.

A reporter had asked PTI leader Asad Umar whether Tareen had been in contact with him, to which Umar shook his head in denial. However, he did state that Fawad Chaudhry — who had resigned from the party last month — remained in touch from “time to time.”

“Fawad Chaudhry remains in touch with me from time to time,” he said. Pertinent to mention that earlier Asad Umar had distanced himself from Fawad Chaudhry’s unexpected political venture where he held meetings with politicians.

Umar was also asked whether he was facing any “pressure.” He promptly replied that the only “pressure” he faced was appearing before different courts daily.

“Since my release from Adiala Jail, I have attended more than eight court hearings,” he said.

After the chaos of May 9th, the political tides have turned against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Many leaders have parted ways with the party since the clampdown on PTI after the May 9 protests that were held following Imran Khan’s arrest.

While some PTI defectors have decided to step back from politics, many are looking toward other political parties. At least two-dozen PTI ticket holders met former president Asif Zardari and announced their joining of the PPP. Asif Zardari held meetings with them and welcomed them to the party.

Meanwhile, dozens of others have reportedly contacted former PTI leader Jehangir Tareen to join his ranks. It has been stated that Jehangir Tareen was forming his political party amid speculations that those quitting the PTI would join him. According to sources close to Tareen, he was expected to announce the new party in a day or two.

The sources said more than 60 lawmakers and the top PTI leaders had contacted the Tareen. Some of them, including Firdous Ashiq Awan and Zargul Khan, have met with him. It has also been reported that former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry and former minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan are also in close contact with Jahangir Tareen in Lahore.
